Artist Statement

My work is inspired by narrative and mythological themes. They are incorporated in color, texture and often digital images.

About the Artist

Maria's work derives from both organic ancd conceptual inspiration using hands-on and digital printmaking techniques. Her on site paintings and drawings inspire her studio work.

She is a juried member of the National Association of Women Artists, N.Y.; an art and letters member of the Diamond State Branch of the National League of American Pen Women; the Da Vinci Art Alliance of Philadelphia, PA and the Howard Pyle Studio Group in Wilmington, DE.

Her honors and awards include
excellence awards and awards of distinction at the Chester County Art Association and the Center of Creative Arts, and placements in the Regional exhibitions of the National League of American Pen Women.  She was the recipient of the Silver Medal and the Best in Show in the past two years at the Da Vinci Art Alliance. 

Maria was jointly awarded a Delaware Division of the Arts and a N.E.A.

Professional Fellowship in Works on Paper.
Maria was granted an art residency in printmaking at the Vermont Studio Workshop in 2000. Maria,an adjunct professor of Fine Arts, has taught at Wimington University, New Castle campus from 1984-2009. She has recently exhibited in the juried exhibition of the Delaware Women's Conference at the Delaware Art Museum.

Her work is included in a major traveling exhibition, Women Collared for Work, that will be exhibited in several venues in 2009-2010.
