"People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”
-- Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, Swiss psychiatrist, author (1926-2004)
My fascination with stained glass began at a very early age when I gazed at the beautiful stained glass windows in the church I attended. I knew that some day I would learn the art and satisfy my curiosity about "painting with glass."
I have been working in stained glass since 1993, and am also creating art by fusing glass--firing glass in a kiln at very high temperatures until it fuses, or melts, together.
My work includes hundreds of custom windows for businesses, churches and homes including Frank Lloyd Wright reproductions using lead "came," historic restoration of antique leaded windows, sidelights and cabinet doors. I was commissioned by the Hon. William Chandler to create three large windows for the main courtroom in the new Court of Chancery on the Circle in Georgetown, DE and completed another for the new courtroom in the fall of 2008. My window, "Indian Summer," was chosen by Sen. Tom Carper's staff to be displayed in his office in Washington, D.C.
I am a member of the board of the Delaware by Hand group of artists and artisans who promote "made in Delaware" art in businesses, schools and the community. I am also a member of the Rehoboth Art League.
