Karin’s work is driven by a passion for exploration of color, which she feels has the ability to evoke so many different emotions as well as spatial relationships. In the pursuit of her own artistic growth she pushed out of her comfort zone and experimented. A unique style emerged, one that simplifies the natural details for more basic shapes and their inherent color relationships. The newly developed contemporary style is a significant shift from her more traditional rendering. It has also helped to raise the bar on her level of quality and technique. It is her belief that as we achieve anything in our lives, to perfect our performance we must practice. Success is the result of practicing one’s craft and knowing what it is you want then actively pursuing your dreams.
She has a deep respect for power and beauty of the ocean. Her fundamental mission is to serve as a catalyst for environmental awareness and conservation. She often dedicates a portion of the sale of one of her paintings to the Marine Education Research & Rehabilitation Institute (MERR). In addition she collaborated with MERR in the design of a Delaware automobile license plate, which is now available at DMV as an official license plate for state residents. The plate has a
one-time fee of $50.00, of which MERR will receive $35.00 per plate.
She was chosen by The Delaware Division of the Arts to receive an Individual Artist Fellowship grant in the Professional category in 2013 and the Emerging Professional category in 2008. She is a signature member of both the American Society of Marine Artists and Artists for Conservation Foundation. She is also a member of the Ocean Artists Society.
