Artist Statement
Now that I’ve finally retired from work, I have begun my real career - painting. It’s my passion. I’ve always said my work supported my art interest. I’ve been painting seriously with watercolors for the past five years. I find Painting can be fun, relaxing, enjoyable, meditative, exciting and audacious depending on settings and my mood. Lately I have been painting in watercolors, acrylic and oil mediums. You never know what happy surprises evolve in your paintings. I just love to paint.
About the Artist
Gerilyn Gaskill has a passion for capturing the beauty of the Delaware coastline and Delmarva landscapes in watercolor, oil and acrylics. Her interest in art started young in kindergarten and was helped along by her great-grandfather artist August Seiler, who also painted coastal imagery. Her aunt Sheryl Woods from Lewes, Del., also helped cultivate her love of art throughout her life, especially in plein air.
Gerilyn believes art runs in her blood. Even though she got a late start in the career of professional fine arts, she now completes a painting a day or pretty close.
In her working years, Gaskill moved away from her beloved Delaware and lived in Riverside, Calif., and Baltimore. She retired in (12-2008) from a career in nursing, moved back to Delaware and hasn’t looked back since. Art consumes her every waking moment.
When she’s not painting, she is teaching others to paint. Gaskill volunteers a great deal of her time educating youth in the arts. For several years, she has organized and taught an art camp to local youths at the Millsboro Art League.
Gerilyn Gaskill was born and resided in Wilmington, Del. spent some of her youth in Lewes, Del., and now splits the difference residing closer to the middle of the state in Georgetown, Del. Active in the local arts, she is a member of the Millsboro Art League, Millsboro, Del., Milton Art Guild, Milton, Del.; Cape Artists, Lewes, Del. Rehoboth Art League, Rehoboth, Del.; Mispillion Art League, Milford, Del.; and the Art League of Ocean City, Ocean City, Md.
Art enthusiast can view and buy her latest work at the local art leagues (see list below) and gerisartworld.blogspot.com. Her art is also for sale at several area restaurants to include the Blue Water Grill, Millsboro, DE 19966.
