Denise Dumont is a representational painter who enjoys capturing the character and beauty of the everyday world around her. She is drawn to the coastal landscapes and cityscapes of the Atlantic Region and travels often with a sketchbook and portable easel in hand.
Denis received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Parsons School of Design in New York City. She studied painting at the School of Visual Arts as well and frequented the studios of the Arts Students League. Her work has been largely influenced by Edward Hopper, Eouard Vuillard and Fairfield Porter.
"My favorite scenes are usually found in the light of early morning or late afternoon when the shadows are deep and dramatic." Denise often paints outdoors in the plain air tradition and works on larger canvases in the studio.
Born in New York, Denise spent her childhood on Long Island and adult years in New York City. Her desire for a more rural setting led her to the Delaware coast in 2004. In September of this year, she will relocate her commercial studio above the blacksmith shop in Lewes to the historic Clipper Mill foundry in Baltimore where she will continue to divide her time between the beach and the DC Metro area.
Denise is an active member of the Mid-Atlantic Plain Air Painters Association, Oil Painters of America and Rehoboth Art League. She exhibits regularly and is represented by The Station Gallery and AerieArt Gallery in Delaware and Bishop's Stock Gallery in Maryland.
