I come from a long line of women who took pride in handwork. In childhood, my grandmother gifted linen handkerchiefs edged in handmade lace, and this began my love of texture, color, fiber and textiles. In my early years, I explored all types of textile handwork, and then 25 years ago discovered weaving. I began weaving reproduction textiles, antique linen weaves and overshot coverlets. Along the way, watercolor painting and gardening were added to the mix.
Now retired from a career in healthcare, I am bringing all the creative and technical interests together, weaving textured shawls, scarves, yardage and table linens blending color with complex structure. I weave on multishaft looms with up to 24 shafts. I am primarily self-taught with most of my weaving education coming from workshops and conferences and my own extensive library.
I am a member of Harmony Weaver's Guild and Rehoboth Art League, and am a Master Gardener. I participate with Harmony Guild in the annual Hagley Museum Craft Fair. My pieces have been part of group exhibitions at the Wilmington Library and Delaware Center for Horticulture.
