DRIFTWOOD COLLAGE: These have been carefully crafted from selected Atlantic driftwood collected from Delaware beaches. Each usable piece of driftwood takes the artist an average two hours to find.
These collages contain the artist's signature piece of driftwood, i.e., part of a crab basket bottom which is so characteristic of the region. They are used to depict the Delaware sunrise and sunset. The frequent changes of direction for each driftwood grouping often give the appearance of aerial views of countryside fields. Other complex groupings are more representative of the wetlands.
Also, the artist strives to use driftwood that has hints of residual paint and rust. The frames of each collage come from pieces of sand dune fences, decks, and docks that find their way to shore after a nor'easter. Occasionally, storms bring pieces of beach chairs and umbrella poles that are incorporated into the collages.
